The floor is anything other than metal it may be bit more expensive than carpet.

I’m 13 going on 14 and I’ve nearly grown out of the bed I was bought when I was 12! Buy a cheap, metal frame for now, then, when he gets older and and needs a new bed, buy him a really good wooden frame. Preferably oak. However, if your buying a bunk bed, go for wood, my metal one snapped in 2 places, wobbled constantly and nearly took one of my fingers.

Wood. I`ve seen some nasty injuries from metal ones.
