Yes… you do need a box spring. Even if you place wooden beams across the base to sit your mattress on, it will sorta stick thru between the planks. You’ll ruin your mattress and it won’t be high enough up on the frame anyway.
Most metal frames need box springs.
The bed is designed to have the frame.
This is only the head and foot board..Y ou will need a bed frame for it..In a queen size Plus box sprngs and mattress..
