Ellicot City is nice and safe. There are cheaper places but you have to deal with crime.

The cheapest place is Brooklyn Park. They have some nice sized houses in a neighborhood setting. Still, there are some streets around there where crime runs rampant. Glen Burnie is a nice and convenient option, but the cost of living there can be relativelty high when compared to Brooklyn, although it’s reasonable when matched against surrounding areas such as Pasadena, Linthicum or Millersville.
